ARMENIANS IN AMERICA ON 78RPM FROM THE ARA DINKJIAN ARCHIVE
Kalan Music celebrates its 30th anniversary with a multifaceted collection it adds to the acclaimed Archive Series: “Armenians in America on 78rpm, from the Ara Dinkjian Archive”…
58 recordings Ara Dinkjian selected from his collection of five thousand 78rpm records present a compendium of the musical journey of Anatolian Armenians who migrated to the United States before and after 1915… This selection reflects not only the musical body they took with them as they left their homeland, but also the musical world they sustained, developed and recorded in the lands they migrated to.
This limited-edition work is made up of three CDs and a booklet, and Dinkjian’s selection is accompanied by a detailed article of researcher on Armenian culture and history, Harry Kezelian. The work also features, in addition to the portraits of the artists, photographs of the original records and of the life of Armenian society in Anatolia.
Our founder, Hasan Saltık, had specially designed this work for the 30th anniversary of the institution he founded, Kalan Music. We completed the work following his sudden passing, and dedicate it to his memory.
