About Kalan Music

Kalan Music was founded by Hasan Saltik in 1991 in order to support and promote a variety of culturally diverse and under-represented musical gems. This engagement with exciting and uncommon genres is what sets Kalan Music apart from other record labels, giving it a unique market position. It was the first music company in Turkey to repair rare vinyl records and re-release the music for new generations of listeners.

The early releases of Kalan Music focused on re-interpretations of classical tango for contemporary music lovers. The label moved on to offer albums based on traditional Turkish masterpieces. The legendary artists represented in this period include Tanburi Cemil Bey, Şükrü Tunar, Udi Hrant and Yorgo Bacanos, alongside many others.

Kalan Music has, with the assistance of expert musicologists, compiled and issued albums of unusual and ethnically varied works that are considered important to Turkish music history. As well as being appreciated by classical Turkish music lovers, academics have found these records invaluable for use as sources in international studies of ethnomusicology. This wide-ranging archive includes various artists from Pomak immigrant Sadettin Kaynak to Münir Nurettin Selçuk and Hacı Taşan.

Today Kalan Music allows current artists to present their captivating new works to the public, as well as offering beautiful traditional compositions. Celebrated performers such as Erkan Oğur, İsmail Hakkı Demircioğlu, Tolga Çandar, Yansımalar, Grup Yorum, Kardeş Türküler, Fenomen along with many other artists and groups are able to present their work with Kalan Music.
